U.S. Lacrosse, the national governing body of the sport, has just named 25 Washington State high school girls to the under 19 regional team for 2014. One-fifth of the list, which represents 15 high schools in eastern and western Washington, consists of Bainbridge High School players, and the team’s head coach will be Spartan head coach Tami Tommila.

More than 65 girls from state high schools competed for the 20 active-roster and five alternate spots at tryouts on March 23 at Marymoor Park in Redmond. The selected under-19 team will be playing to defend the division title at the U.S. Lacrosse Women’s National Tournament in Bel Air, Maryland, on Memorial Day Weekend. In 2013, more than 1,400 student-athletes representing 66 teams from 31 states competed at the 80th annual tournament.

The five BHS students are Sophomore and Attacker Sonia Olson, Junior and Defender Truman Flynn, Junior and Defender Olivia Peloquin, Junior and Keeper Kelly Coffyn, and Junior and Attacker Ellen Carpenter as alternate. Olson is a returning player from last year’s U-19 team. Coach Tommila is also a returnee from last year. She will be assisted by Seattle Prep Coach Lyndsey Gillis.

BHS has the most students of any other school on the team. Mercer and Lakeside each have three.
